Tegan's EEG

Yesterday was rough!

I was contacted by the OU Medical Center on Monday and was informed that Tegan would have his EEG on Wednesday at 9:15 am. "No problem," I thought.

The receptionist continued saying, "You will have to have him in bed by 11:00 pm."

"Again, no problem," I thought considering he's almost always in bed by 10 pm.

But she continued, saying "You will need to wake him up by 4:00 am.

"I started to panic a little, but I said to myself "We can do that."

But that wasn't the end of her instructions. "You will need to keep him up from 4:00 am until his appointment time at 9:15 am."

"What!!!!" I thought. I wanted to say to the voice on the other end "You do realize he's 9 weeks old, don't you??" But instead I said, "Okay, we'll do our best" and hung up the phone.

So yesterday began with us waking up bright and early at 4 am in the frickin' morning. We kept Tegan up with a variety of loud noises, including clapping repeatedly and making the most obnoxious siren noises we could. We almost lost the battle on the way to the hospital. As any person with infants are aware...

carseat + driving = sleeping baby

So obviously, the above equation factoring in sleep deprivation lead to a baby that would not be roused for ANYTHING! But I kept him as conscious as possible and we made it to the appointment with a semi-comatose child.

I was under the impression that the EEG would be the easier of all the appointment Tegan would have. Boy was I wrong. The EEG Tech turned out to be a woman who lack any and all interpersonal skills. Although I could tell she was a decent person, she was extremely abrasive and acted as if we knew exactly what was going on. She had to make several marks on Tegan's head in order to place the electrodes. He was placed in a velcro papoos to keep him from secure. Each spot had to be exfoliated and each electrode was placed with a glob of glue and his entire head was wrapped with gauze. He cried during the placement of the electrodes but finally fell asleep when the tech stopped messing with him. His brain waves were recorded for a full 20 minute while he was asleep and for a few brief minutes while he was awake. The gauze was then removed, his hair was washed to remove the glue, and we were free to go.

I can't tell you how my heart ached while he was going through all of this. I wanted to snatch him away from the tech and high-tail it to the parking lot. As a mother, the worst feeling is knowing you're not in control. But I love this little person so much, I will do everything in my power to make sure that he's healthy.

So...EEG down. MRI to go. And next week is our first laser treatment. You can expect a blog about our experience.

Tegan's 2 Month Dr. Appt...

Today was Tegan's 2 month doctor's appointment. Needless to say, I have one chunky monkey! He weighs 13 lbs 5 oz! I looked at Payton's baby book, and he only weighed 12 lbs 9 oz.

The rest of the doctor's appointment went well. He received three vaccinations and I'm pretty sure I cried more than he did. She said he is way ahead of schedule and is showing the development of a 4 month old. I expressed a concern about what might be small seizures, so she pushed up his MRI. He will also be receiving an EKG. Hopefully he will be getting both within the next few months. Please be praying that these tests come back unremarkable.

Payton is almost done with school, and as far as I'm concerned, the sooner the better. Next year he will be attending Southwest Covenant Schools, a private school in Yukon, OK. I have not been satisfied by the level of education he has received at the school he currently attends, so we have decided to hold him back a year and improve the areas in which he struggles. We're excited about giving our boys a higher level of education...even if it means being broke! ;)
